To offer families an encouraging environment in which their children can grow as positive and contributing musicians

This inspirational and educational 8-week program places students in a band designed to provide all-important band experience including band member etiquette, practice, sound, use of monitors, set-up, tear-down and working as a band toward song development and final performance. At the end of each course, students will perform in a final concert. Instructor/coaches may play with any band during the final concert if needed.

ROCK OF AGES Music Program teaches students how to be a contributing member of a band in the shortest time possible. Becoming a contributing member of a band is important because band membership is the goal of most young musicians and can be one of the most rewarding and fun aspects of music! Each weekly class lasts 1.5 hours.

New ROCK OF AGES Music Program: Students must successfully complete the ROCK OF AGES Prep Course (described below)

This is an on-going course designed to teach the skills required to successfully participate in the ROCK OF AGES Music Program. Each class is held in a group lesson format. The topics taught in the classes are as follows:

1. Bass Guitar – introduction of the instrument, tuning, root notes, chord progressions, beats and timing;
2. Drums – introduction of the instrument, tuning, beats, drum fills and timing;
3. Guitar – introduction of the instrument, tuning, basic chords, chord progressions, beats and timing;
4. Keyboard – introduction of the instrument, basic chords, chord progressions, beats and timing; and
5. Voice – vocal technique, basic vocal anatomy, singing strong, pitch and tone.

Each registered student receives a discount from Guitar Center, Roseville, with an original signed “Discount Sheet” provided by ROCK OF AGES. In case you have no idea what gear to buy a prospective student, here are some great ideas (of course, borrowing gear or purchasing used gear can be a less expensive option).

• Bass Guitar Players – Fender Squire Bass Bronco (smaller size) or Squire Bass Pak with Rumble 15 Amp (starter kit)
• Drums – Inexpensive size 5A or 7A drumsticks (drumsets are available for practice at Musicworks)
• Guitar Players – Squire SE-100 Electric Pak (starter kit) or anything in there you may need
• Keyboard – Any touch sensitive keyboard with an out/headphone jack and on board speakers
• Vocal Students – A folder or 3-ring binder with pockets for 2 cd’s, printed vocal charts, and paper for taking notes

Each student becomes a member of a band. Every band member has a responsibility and accountability to the band. The band member is expected to practice their parts each week to allow for the continual growth of each member.
Each band member must bring their music and a pen or pencil to each class. Guitars are to be tuned prior to arrival. Each instructor/coach may have separate requirements
